This is part of a series in which I suggest three related movies to watch. You can find more information and the list of recommendations here.

Don’t you just love slimy, mutated, tentacled, Lovecraftian monstrosities? Here are three movies about remote towns that have to fend off an attack from such things.

Tremors (1990)

Tremors (1990)

Desert sharks with tentacle tongues terrorize a tiny town in Nevada. Don’t make a sound, that’s how they getcha!

Slither (2006)

Slither (2006)

A town in South Carolina is overrun by parasitic flesh-melting worms from space, controlled by a Lovecraftian villain.

Grabbers

Grabbers (2012)

No cowboy hats in this one, but there’s plenty of Guinness. A small island village in Ireland comes under attack from giant balls of tentacles.

Al three movies strike the same balance between drama, action, science fiction, and comedy. Not too wacky but not too heavy or serious either. A few jokes scattered throughout and some nice, light-hearted characterizations and sweet relationships.

Questions:

Do you think there are scary beasties still unknown to science, lurking below the ground, or in the oceans, or deep in caves?

How would you survive if alien creatures invaded your town?

Which of these three tentacled creatures would the scariest if real? Why?
